Whether it’s auto-correct betraying you or being so popular that you have multiple friends with the same name, sending the wrong message to the wrong person has been a long unaddressed mobile phone grievance.

That’s set to change as Apple unveiled – at its recent WWDC22 event – that it plans to roll out a feature that allows users to not only edit sent messages, but to completely unsend them if so desired – beating Twitter to a feature that has been requested ad nauseum.

According to Apple, “users can edit or recall a message for up to 15 minutes after sending it, or recover recently deleted messages for up to 30 days after deletion.”

This new feature for iMessage will roll out with iOS 16, which is slated to be released in Fall 2022.

Also announced at the event was a new ‘buy now, pay later’ model for purchasing Apple products that allows customers to spread payments over four installments in six weeks, interest free. It should be noted however, that ‘Apple Pay Later’ will only be available in the US.

A couple of other notable features include the ability to lock screens different days – for example, you can set it so you don’t receive work notifications at the weekend. Also, the company announced that it would be joining forces with e-commerce platform Shopify so users can track any orders via the Apple Wallet.

Rounding out the updates were announcements that maps software would soon feature better rendering of landmarks, live sports scores will be accessible on Apple TV and finally, a shared video-watching app available in messaging.

There was also MacBook updates by way of what the company describes as a “complete redesign” of its Air laptop, all based around its new M2 silicon processor, which it says is 35% faster than the previous M1 chip.

The new laptop will be 1.2 kg and have a 1080p high-definition camera to provide better images on video calls.
