Space Scotland, the not-for-profit organisations supporting the Scottish space industry, has appointed Dr Natasha Nicholson as their new chief executive.
Nicholson returns to Space Scotland after serving as a cluster manager, playing a critical role during its start.
With a doctorate in astrobiology and having held a range of roles in the science sector – from cross-cluster liaison manager for the Science and Technology Facilities Council at Harwell Campus, to the founding director of space research and development company Star Helix, to the chief scientific officer for the Arctic research station.
Nicholson will now take her skills and lead Space Scotland into its next development stage, focusing on the delivery of its national strategy, as well as responding to the commercial needs of Scotland’s space community.
“Scotland’s space community is still growing rapidly and as a vital role in the UK’s broader space economy,” she stated. “I look forward to working with stakeholders to ensure we remain focused, inclusive and impactful, delivering tangible results that clearly benefit the sector with economic growth, environmental responsibility, and opening new markets across disciplines.”
Space Scotland chair and board director Peter Young said: “Scotland’s space industry offers major opportunities across sustainability, launch, data and advanced manufacturing, while also enabling innovation in sectors like life sciences, AI and fintech.

Space Scotland will turn its focus on supporting its working groups in skills, sustainability, inclusion, infrastructure, and international engagement.
Dr Paul Bate, chief executive of the UK Space Agency, added: “With the first launches approaching from SaxaVord, increasing commercial opportunities in satellite manufacturing and data, and leading roles for universities in space science missions, there has never been a more important time for strong leadership to champion the space community.”
