Scottish football fans will now be able to download a new app containing the latest news, social media updates and video clips from around the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).
The Official SPFL app is part of a new commercial partnership with developer RightNow Digital, which the association aims to use as a platform for sponsorship opportunities.
Simon Ryley, RightNow Digital CEO, said: “We are delighted to be working with such an enthusiastic partner, providing fans with easy access to the amazing content the leagues and clubs produce each day.”
The official SPFL app is available to download from the Apple App Store and Android store.
Supporters from across Scottish football can now read updates from a host of popular news titles, and view the latest social media updates by both the association and clubs, as well as access video content.
This will encompass social media updates on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, while video content will be available through YouTube.
The release of the app, the SPFL said, marks the next step in an initiative to better engage with supporters both around Scotland and further afield.
During the summer, the SPFL launched its redesigned website, which saw the inclusion of new features such as the highly popular SPFL Score Predictor game and the SPFL Stats Centre.
Ryley suggested the move could help to redefine how sports apps can boost engagement between clubs and fans.
“The strong line-up of brands we have looking to promote themselves within the app demonstrates the value of rethinking how sports apps should work for both rights-holders and fans,” he said.
Commenting on the app launch, SPFL Chief Executive Neil Doncaster said: “We are always looking at new and innovative ways to engage supporters and the new SPFL app is another way for fans to link up with our competitions and clubs.
“Furthermore, the new app will deliver stronger online fan engagement for our existing and new SPFL partners.”
