Startup Grind Aberdeen is set to welcome Chris Herd, founder and CEO of remote working infrastructure platform Firstbase, in an event that will explore the strategies behind his success in scaling from the north coast of Scotland to Silicon Valley.

The event, From Aberdeen to the World – Chris Herd’s $65M Journey of Scaling and Exiting, takes place February 19th at the ONE Tech Hub in Aberdeen, where Herd will join a fireside chat with Beena Sharma, CEO at CCU International, to unpack the practical lessons behind his journey, including raising over $65 million (£52m) in funding and a successful exit through a strategic acquisition by AppDirect.

Startup Grind Aberdeen said that Herd will share how he turned what had been dismissed as a ‘useless’ and ‘uninvestable’ idea into a global success, providing insights for Scotland’s aspiring entrepreneurs.

Founded in 2019, Firstbase aims to increase the autonomy of workers through distributed work, with a platform fusing SaaS automation with a ‘global physical operations engine’. According to the firm, the platform gives companies the ability to manage the entire employee lifecycle, and manage their assets globally.

Most recently, the company announced a new partnership with global office supplier WeWork in November to provide remote workers using Firstbase’s platform access to flexible co-working spaces.

Along with hearing Herd’s story, Startup Grind said that the event will explore the importance of determination when launching a business, while also providing entrepreneurs and investors from across the country an opportunity to network.
