£450,000 of funding is available as part of the Tay5G programme, seeking to bolster engagement with 5G connectivity across sectors in the Tay Cities Region. 

The funding is backed by the Scottish and UK Governments, and is born from the Tay Cities Deal, working with partners including the Scottish Futures Trust, the Scotland 5G Centre and Councils, University and other stakeholders in Tay Cities Region. 

Aiming to create opportunities to trial 5G mobile communications, the funding is available to all kinds of sectors from entertainment to manufacturing, health care to construction, fashion to transport. 

5G notably enables advancements in communications across areas of virtual reality, automation, and improving the connectivity of the internet of things (IoT). 

The Tay5G Challenge Fund is available to six applications who can demonstrate impactful projects for products, services or solutions that use 5G.

Tay5G overall aims to enhance the telecommunication capabilities across the Tay region which encompasses Angus, Dundee, Fire, and Perth & Kinross. 

Successful projects will have access to incorporate one of the three 5G test beds in the Tay Cities Region as part of their process. 

Applicants from across the UK are able to apply, but they must be based in the Tay region.

While projects can cover a range of products, services and solutions, applications that focus on one of the key Tay region sectors will be viewed more favourably. Sectors include agriculture, digital creative, energy and renewables, life sciences, manufacturing, transport, IoT, and tourism. 

The Challenge Fund can provide grant funding of up to 70% of eligible costs depending on organisation side and status. Successful applicants are asked to provide match funding in cash or in kind such as staff time, expertise, resources and facilities. 

Currently, applications for stage one are open and will be closed on the 31st of January.
