In a bid to bolster user safety and confidence, dating app Tinder will roll out an optional verification process to UK users in spring.
To acquire the verifications, users will be required to submit a video selfie along with a valid Driver’s License or Passport. The system checks if the face in the video selfie corresponds to both the photo on the ID and the user’s profile pictures, while also verifying the date of birth on the ID. Users can easily complete this process on their profile page.
The verification badges the platform currently use in the UK will undergo refinement to distinguish users based on their chosen verification method. Users completing only photo verification will now be identified by a blue camera icon badge, while those opting for ID verification alone will receive a blue ID icon badge. Users completing both ID and Photo Verification will be adorned with the highly coveted blue checkmark.
This feature underwent initial testing in Australia and New Zealand last fall, revealing that users who embraced ID verification witnessed a substantial 67% increase in matches compared to their non-verified counterparts.
