According to reports from the Financial Times, the AI giant, which has faced a recent bout of turbulence – from its spat with the US Pentagon over its AI defence contract to the recent leak of its source code – is being courted by the UK to expand its footing in the country.

The UK government is, according to FT reports, trying to tempt Anthropic with London office expansions and a dual stock listing.

According to the FT, the Labour government and the Prime Minister’s office has supported the push for Anthropic to strengthen its presence in the UK.

Anthropic and the Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology have yet to issue comments on the reporting.

The tech firm behind AI chatbot Claude continued to deal with the fallout of the US branding it a supply-chain risk following its hesitancy to allow its AI to be used to autonomous weapons and mass surveillance in its deal with the US Department of War.

Since then, a US judge blocked the listing temporarily, and Anthropic is pursuing a second lawsuit against the designation.

Pentagon insiders say that it could take months to fully separate their systems from Anthropic despite order from the executive office to completely halt using the firm’s systems.

Following the deal’s fallout, the US signed a contract with OpenAI, which was also met with much derision.
