Winners Announced at 2024 Scottish Financial Technology Awards

The ceremony brought together industry leaders across financial services and fintech to celebrate some of Scotland’s finest.

The winners of the 2024 Scottish Financial Technology Awards have been announced, with Aveni.ai, the AI fintech firm, securing the prestigious “Fintech of the Year” award on the evening.

Hosted live at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh, this year’s awards recognised outstanding companies and individuals working in Scotland’s financial services and fintech ecosystem.

The packed ceremony helped kick off the Scotland Fintech Festival with a bang, and gave the ecosystem’s leaders and innovators the chance to celebrate following another eventful year both in and for the sector.

“It was fantastic to bring Scotland’s vibrant financial services and fintech communities together under one roof,” said Ray Bugg, the founder of DIGIT.

“Since its launch, the Scotland Fintech Festival has showcased the innovation and pioneering spirit of these industries far and wide, highlighting their importance to Scotland’s economy and her people. I expect 2024 will be no different.

“We’d like to offer our congratulations to both the winners and finalists on the evening.”

Scottish Financial Technology Awards: The Winners

This year, Aveni won first prize in the “Fintech of the Year” category. The Edinburgh-based company faced fierce competition, with BR-DGE, LendingCrowd, AutoRek, Predictiva, and Encompass Corporation also in the running for the esteemed award.

Speaking to DIGIT after the win, Joseph Twigg, who serves as Aveni’s CEO, said that, “We’ve been around for four years or so, and we’ve been asked in previous years whether we want to submit an application for Fintech of the Year. We felt we hadn’t achieved enough, but this year’s been different.

“Our revenue has tripled, the number of people that work at Aveni at the start of the year was maybe 29, 30; right now it’s 50, by the end of the year it’s probably going to be 60. Our clients are starting to really expand the way they use our technology—we’re in a good place.”

The ceremony also saw Mickael Paris, Fintech Scotland’s marketing director, secure the Special Recognition award, honouring the ongoing work he undertakes to help ensure the Scots fintech ecosystem continues to innovate and thrive.

“I’m very humbled,” said Paris. “When I was told I’d won—and it’s the only award where you cannot submit an application yourself, and knowing who the judges were and how brilliant they are—I felt really humbled, and emotional, actually.”

Speaking on the ceremony itself, Paris added: “I think it’s a fantastic event; I think Ray and DIGIT, you guys are doing a fantastic job pulling the cluster together and I’m just very happy that tonight the best companies were recognised. I’m very honoured to be a part of it.”
