Tech Nation has released its 2025 Future Fifty, featuring some of the UK’s leading technology startups, including three Scottish startups.

The Tech Nation Future Fifty is a UK programme that helps late-stage tech companies scale, expand internationally, and build valuable networks.

Supported by HSBC Innovation Banking and its lead partner the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, the programme has helped support some of the UK’s biggest tech startups, from Skyscanner and Deliveroo, to Revolute, Wayve, Zoopla, and more.

Despite an ever expanding UK tech sector, most of the startups selected were based in London (34 out of 50).

Still, it is worth highlighting the three Scottish companies that made the competitive cut, with representatives in AI, health, and lawtech.

Malted.AI

Based in Edinburgh, the AI company has raised £7m to date with key investors including Hoxton Ventures and Creator Fund.

At its Seed stage with 25 employees, founders Iain Mackie, Carlos Gemmell, and Federico Rossetto are already making waves in the Scottish tech ecosystem with their distilled AI solution.

The firm uses distillation to create smaller, bespoke AI models for financial services firms, going beyond general AI to solve intricate and specific, company-centred challenges.

Simple Online Healthcare

The Glasgow-based healthtech firm was founded by Addy Mohammed and Karim Nassar in 2015, and currently employs 133 people.

Despite being at its bootstrapped stage with no disclosed funding to date, the startup is already serving over 100,000 patients monthly with its digital health platform, amassing an annual revenue rate of over £130m.

Its digital health platform provides an affordable, clinically-led care option, offering specialised services for weight management, men’s health, and women’s health.

This Edinburgh-based company is scaling AI in the lawtech industry, and has already amassed £30m in funding with top investors including Index Ventures and General Catalyst & Cooley.

Founded by Ross McNairn and with 40 employees, the firm builds AI models that helps lawyers speed up their work with the precision they require. It helps in-house teams collaborate with the wider business, collating drafts, reviews, and advice instantly, saving previous time for lawyers dealing with tough caseloads.
