JP Morgan has appointed Gillian Murray to run its dedicated private banking advisory team in Scotland.

Gillian Murray has joined JP Morgan as its new head of Scotland to run a team of private bankers based at the firm’s offices on Lochside Place in Edinburgh Park, a department which was created only in February this year.

An industry veteran, Ms Murray joins JP Morgan from RBC Brewin Dolphin where she was an investment director, having previously also worked at North Capital Management.

Speaking on the appointment, Oliver Gregson, region head of JP Morgan Private Bank in the UK, Ireland & Channel Islands, said: “We are delighted that Gillian Murray has joined to head J.P. Morgan Private Bank’s growing team in Scotland.

“Scotland has, for some time now, been a fast-growing hub for innovation and tech start-ups, attracting global interest and investment. Our dedicated local team strengthens our ability to better serve our clients and businesses across the country.”

This recent news is confirmation of the growing presence of the bank north of the border. In April this year, the bank cut the ribbon of its new 14 storey building in Glasgow’s International Finance District, with room for the 2,600 people JP Morgan employs in the city.

The private bank has been operating in Edinburgh since 1976, and is the first New York bank to have established a representative office in the city, where it employs 1,400 people. The JP Morgan Chase group is reportedly now one of the largest employers in Scotland, with around 4000 staff, and recently opened a call centre for its retail banking arm Chase in the Scottish capital.
